For the counter alone, Square Plus costs less than Shopify Grow with POS Pro at two locations: about $41–$155 a month when each location takes $15,000–$50,000 in card sales. The answer changes when you also sell online, because Shopify’s price includes your online store and one shared inventory, while a Square counter plus a separate website means two systems and often a sync app.
Every paid Shopify plan includes casual in-person selling. POS Pro adds staff permissions, rich customer profiles, stock transfers, in-store pickup workflows and inventory reporting, for $89 per location per month, or $67 on a 12-month term (checked Oct 5, 2026). Decide per location, not per business.
Read your Clover agreement before anything else, because many Clover setups come through a bank or reseller with their own contract terms. Items, customers and orders export as full CSV lists; inventory by location does not come across in the standard import, so plan a count on cutover day.
Products and customers move; catalogs with more than three option types need restructuring for Shopify; stock by location is loaded per location and confirmed with a count; some hardware may be reusable, but check models against Shopify’s supported list first.
A single counter can start at $49 (Tap & Chip reader, using a phone or tablet you own) or $349 (POS Terminal). A full counter with a stand, receipt printer, scanner, cash drawer and hub comes to about $1,200 in Shopify hardware. POS Go is no longer sold, and every device must run iOS 18 or Android 13 by June 6, 2027.
Add the shop as a location, decide which location fulfills online orders, move stock with transfers, set up staff roles, pick hardware for the counter you actually have, check sales tax for the new address, and train before opening day.
