Shopify POS hardware for a small counter: what it costs in 2026
A single counter can start at $49 (Tap & Chip reader, using a phone or tablet you own) or $349 (POS Terminal). A full counter with a stand, receipt printer, scanner, cash drawer and hub comes to about $1,200 in Shopify hardware. POS Go is no longer sold, and every device must run iOS 18 or Android 13 by June 6, 2027.

Tap to Pay on iPhone and Tap to Pay on Android need no extra hardware, but Shopify notes they are contactless only: no chip, no swipe.

Totals are the sum of the listed prices before tax and shipping. The tablet or phone is not included.
What changes in 2027
- POS Go is no longer sold. Shopify says it enters maintenance mode on January 1, 2027, and mobile selling ends on May 26, 2027. There is no trade-in program. Shopify lists Verifone Victa Mobile, Tap to Pay, and Tap & Chip as the U.S. replacements.
- Operating systems: Shopify says that in 2027, Android devices must run Android 13 or higher and iPads and iPhones iOS 18 or higher, updated by June 6, 2027. Older tablets may need replacing.
What you can keep from your old system
Shopify's migration guides say some of your current hardware might be compatible and point to its supported-hardware list. Receipt printers, scanners and cash drawers are the usual candidates. Card readers for Shopify Payments come from Shopify's own range. Check each model against the list before buying.
A note on offers
At the time of writing, Shopify's POS Pro yearly offer includes a discounted Verifone Victa Mobile per location. That is Shopify's offer, not ours, and it can change; the offer's voucher cannot be used for printers or scanners.
